In a world where things are always so go go go and on to the next thing, it can feel a little stressful jumping around, marking things off your to-do list, always just on the go. This year, I’m really trying to slow down, living more in the present and savor the journey instead of always jumping from one thing to the next. These 10 simple self-care practices have improved my days and have helped me live more stress-free. Which of these do you do already and what will you implement? I’d love to connect over on Instagram @daniellemgodfrey!
1. Morning Routine:
Your morning routine can set the tone for your entire day. Start your day with a few minutes of mindfulness. Focus on your breath and be present in the moment. Try out different morning routines and see what works for you. Personally, I read my vision, journal, read personal development and then work on a creative project during my morning routine. This energizes me for the rest of my day!

2. Healthy Nutrition:
Food FUELS your body so choose nourishing foods for your meals. Include a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins to provide your body with essential nutrients. What’s helped me stay on track and keep things more simple is to meal plan and prep.

3. Movement:
Moving your body is one of my favorite self-care practices! There’s nothing like a good sweat to make you feel energized and alive! Get in some movement each day. This could be a simple walk outside, a 30 minute at-home workout, going to the gym or your favorite class. Do something that makes you excited to workout!

4. Take Breaks:
Take short breaks throughout the day to stretch and move. This helps prevent stiffness, improves circulation, and boosts your energy levels. If you need a reminder to take a break, set an alarm on your phone. Make it your practice to get up, stretch, fill your water bottle, get a snack, etc when your alarm goes off. (Admittedly, I need to get better at this!)
5. Practice Gratitude:
When you focus on what you’re grateful for, you can guarantee you’re going to feel less stressed and more in the moment. Take a moment each day to reflect on things you are grateful for. I like to do this as part of my “Power 9” journaling activity. In my journal each day, I write 3 things I’m grateful for (make them specific), 3 things I’m working on and 3 things I’m excited about. The more specific the better!
6. Personal Development
Personal development has been a game changer for me in my life and one of my favorite self-care practices. Read or listen to something that’s going to help you grow for at least 10 minutes a day. Learn something personal to you. Want to be a better leader? Find a leadership book. Want to learn more about money mindset and finances? There’s a ton of options there. Grow how you want to grow learning things that are interesting to you and help you in your life.
7. Enjoy a Hobby:
Set aside time for a hobby you love, whether it’s reading, gardening, or playing a sport. Engaging in activities you enjoy contributes to overall life satisfaction. What’s something you always say to yourself “if I had more time, I’d….” or “I wish I had more time to…” Start to MAKE the time by scheduling it into your weekly schedule. When can you schedule in reading or gardening or a creative project? FIND the time.
8. Unplug During Meals:
Practice mindful eating by turning off electronic devices during meals. Enjoy your food without distractions, savoring each bite. This is good for the whole family and a great time to connect with one another which is so good for the soul!
9. Evening Relaxation:
What does your evening look like? Try to wind down in the evening with a calming routine. This may include reading, gentle stretching, or practicing relaxation techniques to prepare your body for a restful night’s sleep. Wash your face, maybe take a bath, clean the kitchen so you start your day in a good way, set your workout clothes out. What would help you to implement in your evening routine?
10. Quality Sleep:
Prioritize getting enough sleep each night. Establish a consistent sleep schedule, create a comfortable sleep environment, and unwind before bedtime for a more rejuvenating sleep. Are you getting enough sleep or waking up feeling exhausted?
