Meal prepping takes a little planning, a bit of time BUT makes your week run so much smoother! Let me tell you how much easier and less stressed I feel when I can just grab my breakfast on the way to work or heat my lunch up after I pick up the kids and everything is just ready. for me. to eat. WHAT? As a busy mama, taking the time to plan and prep is SO worth it! Here are my top 5 tips!

1. Schedule a time to do your meal prepping.

Like anything you want to actually get done, you need to know WHEN you’re going to do it. Personally, I like to get my groceries on Friday so I can prep Saturday or Sunday (depending on our weekend schedule). I usually prep in the morning to get it done with and then I can enjoy the rest of the day!

2. Put on music or a show while you work.

Why not make life a little more fun right? Cutting and prepping all your food for the week can get a little boring if you let it BUT I know you won’t! Put on your favorite music or a show and then get to work! This is a great time to catch up on all your reality tv!

3. Have a plan.

Let’s back up a bit… before you CAN even prep, you need a plan of WHAT you’ll be prepping. If you need some inspiration, join my email list! I send out weekly recipes every Sunday! (Along with other freebies and health and wellness tips and resources!)

Some of my favorite meals to prep:

  • Overnight oats
  • Egg muffins
  • Salads
  • BOS (Bowl of Stuff) – like different types of veggies and quinoa or veggies and rice, etc

4. Work by meal.

To avoid your kitchen becoming a complete disaster, work by meal! (Mine gets pretty messy and I’m a clean as I go prepper.) SO decide what meal you’re going to prep first, get out all the ingredients and tools you need and work on that meal. Then, go to the next and any snacks you want to prep until you’ve finished.

5. Start with what takes the longest.

This is an opinion really but I like to do what takes the longest that way I get it out of the way. That always feels like a big win and then you can continue on to the other meals and items to prep that don’t feel as big and time consuming. (Also usually I build up the biggest and scariest preps in my head and really they aren’t that bad!)

BONUS (and most important): Keep it simple!

Meal prepping doesn’t need to be fancy and the most important part of meal prepping is the actual prepping SO keep it simple! Keeping things simple means you’re more likely to follow through and create this habit. I keep my meal prepping simple by having one breakfast for the week and one or two lunches for the week. For dinners, I get a bunch of different types of veggies and proteins and mix and match depending on what I want that day. Keep it simple!
