Balancing business and mom life can be tough but it IS possible to be successful and feel fulfilled in both. I started building my wellness business when my son was 6 weeks old. So really, I’ve grown this business his entire life and have had to navigate the ups and downs of both business and mom life, the different seasons and schedules, the highs and the lows.

Here are my top 7 tips for building a business as a busy mom!

7 Tips for Balancing Building a Business and Mom Life

Wake up early

I know that when my kids get up there’s no way I can plan what’s going to happen let alone when I’ll have time to get any business tasks done SO I prioritize waking up early before my kids get up. During my morning time, I pour into me first with some visualization and personal development. (Sometimes a meditation!) Then I get to work and I do my MOST important needle moving business task first. That way once the first baby wakes up, I know that I’ve at least tackled (or started to tackle) the most important thing.

Have a plan for the day

I like to use a digital planner that way I can move things around easily, copy and paste to a different day, erase, etc. I just found one I liked on etsy (there’s a ton!) and use it with my ipad and apple pencil. The way I plan is through breaking my year into quarters, quarters down to weeks and then days. Then, once I know exactly what I need to get done that day, I have a general plan and SCHEDULE when I’m going to do those tasks during the day. Generally, I get work done in the morning, during naps and after my kids go to bed. If I need more time, I’ll set the kids up with something to do while I knock off a (usually quick or easy) task.

And a back up plan

Like I said before, you just never know with kids! Balancing business and mom life is hard! You never know who’s going to have a meltdown or need 5 billion snacks or be a stage 5 clinger sooo as good of a plan you may have, always have a back up plan. I like to think of my back up plan as much survival list. What survival items do I need to do in order to keep my business running and moving forward.

Schedule in when I’m completing income producing activities

This goes along with the plan but it’s worth mentioning again. How many times have you had a to-do list that just has the same items on it every day. Maybe if you’re lucky you cross a couple things off but if you don’t actually SCHEDULE in time for when you’re going to do your important business tasks, you won’t get them done. You can have the best intentions in the world but until it’s scheduled in, it probably won’t happen.

Watch recordings for training calls I can’t make live

This goes along specifically for my business but what are things that you could do later in your business? Maybe something that’s a little mindless that you can do while you’re doing something else? Do you have anything like that? Luckily our training calls are always recorded. So if you don’t make it on live, you can always watch the recording. I like to watch these while I clean the house or am doing mindless chores.

Batch work

This has been huge for my business and being intentional with my time. What can you batch work in your business? For me, it’s instagram content and blog content. It is way easier (for me at least) to just have to pull a piece of content, edit, maybe tweak a little and add a caption than to create the whole thing from start to finish. Give this a try and see how on top of it you feel!

Focus on one task at a time

Are you ever working on something and then reach for your phone only to get distracted and spiral down a rabbit hole? Ya, me too. Or do you have tabs on tabs on tabs open on your computer? Yep, me too! It’s okay. We get distracted. BUT how can we eliminate distractions? Maybe put your phone across the room or on do not disturb while you’re working. Maybe close the unnecessary tabs on your computer (and in your brain!)

Building a Business as a Busy Mom

When I follow the above, not only do I feel like I’m crushing my business life but also mom life. When I’m intentional with my time in my business, I’m able to put all my effort into that and then turn it off and have intentional time with my kids. You can definitely do both and feel fulfilled in BOTH areas of your life but it does take work and it does take being intentional!
