Eating healthy doesn’t need to be stressful or complicated. It can actually be really simple and in my opinion you should aim to make it as simple as possible because that is what is going to make it sustainable. Here are my top 3 tips to eating healthy and make it a lifestyle.
Tip #1 to Eat Simple – How to plate your meals
I don’t know about you but I’m not interested in measuring my food or counting calories. If that’s your thing, totally fine! It’s just not mine. I need a system that is easy and simple SO I use a plating system.
For breakfast, I fill my plate with 50% protein, 50% carbs.
For lunch, I fill my plate with 50% veggies, 25% protein, 25% carbs.
For dinner, I fill my plate with 75% veggies, 25% protein.
Knowing how to set up my plate at each meal makes every meal super easy and it makes it easy to stay on plan when we eat out or I’m on vacation, etc. I also don’t have to keep track of how many calories I’m eating or track my food in an app. This system is most sustainable for me to eat healthy because of its simplicity.
Tip #2 for Healthy Eating – Drink Water
Something we maybe underestimate… drinking water. Sometimes our body is not actually hungry when we think it is, but we’re actually thirsty. SO my rule of thumb is to always drink a couple big chugs of water before I eat my meal. I also like to keep my water bottle near me throughout the day.
If you’re not a big fan of drinking water, mix in some fruit or herbs for some flavoring!
Some ideas:
- Pineapple water (this is my hubby’s go to!)
- Strawberry, mint
- Lemon, lime
- Watermelon
Tip #3 to Eat Healthy Consistently – Eat the cookie
This might be counterintuitive as a tip to eating healthy BUT in order to eat healthy CONSISTENTLY, just eat the cookie. And what I mean by that is don’t restrict yourself. Eating a cookie is not going to make you “unhealthy” or derail any progress you’ve made. Having a glass of wine, eating a treat, etc is the same. When you restrict the things you love, there’s NO way you’ll be able to make it a lifestyle. So eat the treat, drink the wine and ENJOY every bite (or sip!)
