Have you ever heard the saying “You can’t out train a bad diet?” … Well it’s true. I used to be someone who would much rather focus on working out than what I ate, but after completing a 4 week intensive gut health nutrition plan, I realized how important your nutrition is for results. If you want to feel AND look your best, you’re going to need to focus on nutritious meals. And if you’re like me and have a busy life, meal prep is the best solution to a healthier lifestyle. Here are my best fit meal prep tips and resources for seeing and feeling the best results.
Healthy Meal Prep
I follow a very simple intuitive eating plan. As a busy mama, I need simple to be sustainable. SO this is the plating system I follow for my meals and for meal prep:
- Breakfast: 50% carbs, 50% protein
- Lunch: 50% veggies, 25% protein, 25% carbs
- Dinner: 75% veggies, 25% protein
Using a plating system like this allows me to eat healthy meals without restricting my portion size. I’m a huge advocate of not restricting yourself even with treats and wine and this plan aligns with my nutrition goals.

So as I’m writing out my weekly meal plan, I have these percentages and what kinds of foods I should be eating at each meal in the back of my head.
Meal prep has been a game changer as someone with a busy schedule. Prepping my meals (I prep breakfast and lunch) gives me a fast food option that are actually healthy food.
Meal Prep Plan
One of the most important things to do in order to commit to your fit meal prep is to plan out your flow. This will look differently to different people BUT as a busy mama of two littles, working in and out of the home and multiple jobs, this is what works for me and what I recommend my clients follow.
Thursday/Friday: Meal planning for the following week
I like to plan by meal and make the same thing for breakfast for one whole week and then I either have one lunch option or two lunch options. Eating a similar meal every day during the week makes this meal prep an affordable price and it makes the actual prepping a lot faster.
From the plan, write out a grocery list so you’re getting the exact ingredients you need and so you don’t spur of the moment grab something you don’t need, throwing off your plan.

Friday: Grocery shopping
I use Instacart and order my groceries from our local Sprouts. The best thing about using a delivery service is you don’t have to take that time to shop yourself. You could use that time for other things like spending time with your kids, working out, working, etc but you’re still getting those fresh ingredients that you need because you’ve added all the food you need to your online list. I highly recommend busy people use a delivery service for groceries. However, if that’s not your thing, you could bring your shopping list and head to your favorite local market and do the shopping yourself!
Saturday or Sunday: Meal prepping
Pick one day (and I like to spend a couple hours in the morning on whatever day I pick – normally Sundays) to do all your meal prepping for the week. When you take the concentrated time to bust it out one part of the day over the weekend, you are more efficient with your time and you can knock it out and then enjoy the rest of your weekend.
So pick what day you’re going to do all your meal prepping, get out all the ingredients you need, all your cooking tools and your meal prep containers and get to cooking!
Here are some of my favorite meal prepping recipes for every meal! I like to focus on clean meals while sticking to my plating percentages (above). High quality ingredients that make me feel my best which then results in feeling confident, weight loss and just an overall healthy lifestyle.
